Frequently Asked Questions:
Unfortunately dogs are not allowed in the national park all year round. However there are some lovely walks you can go on for example Dolina Chocholowska (Chocholowka Valley) from the car park on Siwa Polana to the shelter. Also Droga pod Reglami, is another option. It runs from Murowanica in Zakopane to Siwa Polana in Witow. This beautiful walk is around 12 km - to Kiry the trail is marked with black and then changes to green.
Unfortunately you wont be able to take any sized dog on the cable car as it is within the tatra national park and dog are not allowed on its terrain.
Yes you can, the railway allows dogs however they must be on a lead and wear a muzzle the whole time whilst onboard. Ticket costs 5zl for a return or 3zl for one way ( spring 2020). Please remember that in high season the railway as well as gubalowka itself gets very busy between the hours of 10:00 and 16: 00. So it's best to plan this trip either early morning, late afternoon or in low season.
In Zakopane we have plenty of places where dogs are welcome, those include restaurants, cafes and pubs. The list which is regularly updated can be found below. Its always best to ask and double check before entering the restaurant with a dog. Ideally in high season ( christmas , new years, school holidays , and long weekends) it's always best to call in advance, reserve a table and confirm that your four legged best friend can also come in with you, just to avoid any disappointment.
In Zakopane and its vicinity, you will find several dog hotels where you can leave your dog not only for a few days, but also for a few or several hours. Thanks to this, you can go on any trip to the Tatra National Park
Every year (except for 2020) two large international Dog Shows take place near the Tatra Mountains - in July in Nowy Targ and in August in Zakopane or Kościelisko.
Unfortunately, there is no playground for dogs in Zakopane or its vicinity. Your dog has the best chance to play with other dogs on Gorna Rownia Krupowa, below the Meteorological Observatory.
Yes, dogs can be brought into the Tatra National Park on the Slovak side, but dogs must be led on a leash. You should have a muzzle with you and it is necessary to have a dog's passport with the current rabies vaccination. Personally, I do not recommend taking your dogs on more difficult routes - remember that such a common mountain walk is to be a pleasure primarily for our pupils :) It is also worth knowing that most of the trails on the Slovak side of the Tatra Mountains are closed from November 1 to June 15 .
